Colonial Governor. Served as the 3rd Royal Governor of Plymouth Colony from 1681 to 1692. He was the last governor of the Massachusetts Bay Colony when the Charter absorbed the Colony, except during the time of Edmund Andros's power, to which he as a council named by the King.
