John Kew settled in Fayston, VT about 1848. - Waitsfield HistoryMedical:
He was one of 3 brothers who emigrated from an Irish port about 1847. - Susan Burge
"By 1860, about one-third of Fayston's "heads of household" were people born in Ireland. Farms were relatively cheap and those hardworking people, born in privation, were happy to subsist for the privilege of freedom and opportunity. Eventually, many of them were forced to abandon their farms or were lured away by brighter prospects." - Fayston History, 1999. Full quote in references.

John was a farmer of about 50 acres, with a Waitsfield postal address. (I assume this refers to this John, rather than to his son.)
