Margaret Adelaide Mayo
100 years of age
PROVINCETOWN\emdash Margaret A. (Williams) Mayo, 100, died Feb. 1 at home. She was the wife of the late Herbert F. Mayo.
Born in Boston in 1908, the daughter of the late John F. And Catherine (MacPherson) Williams. She attended schools in Boston until moving to Provincetown at the age of 16. She graduated from Provincetown High School where she met her husband. They owned a cottage colony named East Harbour on Beach Point. Her husband died at the age of 58 and she began a "second life." She then worked at Pilgrim Monument and Provincetown Museum, retiring in 1985 after 25 years.
She enjoyed traveling and visited Europe, the Soviet Union, Israel, Australia, New Zealand and Africa. Often she traveled alone with a specific itinerary. She swam in Provincetown Harbor from Memorial Day until well after Labor Day, did T'ai Chi and walked to town daily. When a bout of sciatica slower her down, she began writing for three to four hours a day. Her "Journals" recorded life as it was in Boston, Canada and Provincetown. They are in the Women's History section of the Schlesinger Library at Harvard University.
Mrs. Mayo is survived by two children, Katherine Mayo McAllister of Natick, David L. Mayo of Provincetown; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; She was predeceased by two children who died in childhood, David Atkins Mayo and Herbert F. Mayo Jr.; and two siblings, John F. Williams and Mabel Rich Nelson.
In keeping with her request, graveside services in the town cemetery will be private. Memorial donations may be made to the Provincetown Library Building Project Capital Campaign Fund, 356 Commercial St., Provincetown, MA 02657 or Pilgrim Monument, High Pole Road, Provincetown, MA 02657.

[1746.] This year, August 21st, the Rev. Benjamin Webb died, aged fifty-one years, having labored in the work of the ministry twenty-six years. His death was deeply lamented by his people.
