Margaret S. Horton
Artist, traveler

EASTHAM — Margaret (Peggy) S. Horton, 95, died Feb. 29 at home.

Born in Whitman, she later moved to Hanson, where she raised her family. She retired to Eastham in 1978. Her mother was Celia Snow of Wellfleet and she traced her ancestry to the Mayflower.

During her retirement, Mrs. Horton loved to travel. She visited Egypt, Japan and Thailand as well as many European countries.

She began her artistic career in antique decorating and painted many intricate trays and pieces of furniture. She was a founding member of Eastham Painters.
Mrs. Horton was an accomplished quilter and had just finished a complex sailor’s valentine at the time of her death.

She is survived by her daughter, Betsey Moehlich of Eastham; her son, Jeremy Horton of Palm City, Fla.; two grandchildren; and a great-grandson.

A celebration of her life was held March 5 in the family home. Memorial donations may be made to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, 10 Brookline Place, West, 6th Floor, Brookline, MA 02445-7226, Attn: Contribution services.
