13 Feb 1877 Barnstable Patriot, p2
"In the District Court in Boston Thursday, cross libels were heard btween schooners Watchful of Providence and Lucy J. Keeler of Wellfleet, for damage by collision, which occurred between 9 and 10 p.m., Oct 20, 1875, off Pollock rip, in clear weather. The Watchful was sailing free and the Lucy was close-hauled. On the part of the Lucy it is claimed that the Watchful being free should have kept out of the way. On the part of the latter it is claimed htat the Lucy came in stays at an inopportune moment under the bows of the Watchful and that due care and skill would have prompted the navigator of the Lucy to have held their course until the Watchful was out of the way. Decision reversed. [Which way?]" 16

Marriage Notes (Captain Josiah Nickerson Knowles)
"On January 28, 1864, Captain Knowles sailed from Boston for another run around the Horn [in Charger], this time with a very fast voyage of 108 days and returned to Boston with a 99-day run on November 8, 1864.
Captain Knowles then wed his first-cousin, Mary Eaton, a young woman from a seafaring family from New Bedford, Massachusetts, after an extensive courtship. She accompanied her husband over the next several California voyages before going ashore at New Bedford for a time.
Captain Knowles went on to command the full-rigged ship Kentuckian which he sailed to Italy. Mary Knowles gave birth to twins, a boy and a girl, Harry and Mattie, and another daughter was born two years later and named after Mary, and she and the children remained with family in New Bedford while Captain Knowles was at sea." -eraoftheclipperships.com
