Nut cases:

fasces for CoulterTo those who scare peace-loving people with phantoms of lost liberty, my message is this: Your tactics only aid terrorists. - John Ashcroft, 2001

"Ashcroft went on to say that our way of life is being threatened by a group of radical religious fanatics who are armed and dangerous. And then he called for prayers in the schools and an end to gun control" - Jay Leno

I don't know that atheists should be considered as citizens, nor should they be considered patriots. This is one nation under God. - George H. W. Bush, American fascist, 27 Aug 1988

On our nation's birthday, it is appropriate to honor the five men who did the most to defend our freedom in the last century. The names are easy to remember — they are the five men most loathed by liberals: Joseph McCarthy, J. Edgar Hoover, Richard Nixon, Whittaker Chambers and Ronald Reagan. - Ann Coulter, July 2003

Ann CoulterJustice is incidental to law and order. - J. Edgar Hoover

Too much book learning kills character.

I knew that my God was bigger than his. I knew that my God was a real God, and his was an idol. - Lt. Gen. William G. Boykin, about battling Muslim militia in Somalia in 1993, reported Oct 2003

Unique among the nations, America recognized the source of our character as being godly and eternal, not being civic and temporal. And because we have understood that our source is eternal, America has been different. We have no king but Jesus.   — John Ashcroft, speech at Bob Jones university

Osama bin Laden Award,
for conspicuous intolerance in the face of reality,
to Jerry Falwell:

Concerning the World Trade Center and Pentagon attacks:

"The abortionists have got to bear some burden for this because God will not be mocked. And when we destroy 40 million little innocent babies, we make God mad. I really believe that the pagans, and the abortionists, and the feminists, and the gays and the lesbians who are actively trying to make that an alternative lifestyle, the ACLU, People for the American Way all of them who have tried to secularize America I point the finger in their face and say, 'You helped this happen.' "

9-11Jerry Falwell on CBN's 700 Club, Sept. 13, 2001
Later "clarifications" did not retract the accusations.

"This whole medieval concept of the jihad, or holy war, had all but vanished from the Muslim world in, like, the 10th century, and with good reason," God said. "There's no such thing as a holy war, only unholy ones. The vast majority of Muslims in this world reject the murderous actions of these radical extremists, just like the vast majority of Christians in America are pissed off over those two bigots on The 700 Club." - the Onion.

believing bullshitWhat makes us unique among all the conservative groups, is that I believe we truly represent the body of Christ. - Andrea Lafferty, executive director of the Traditional Values Coalition, 11/03/2003 NYT

All the ills from which America suffers can be traced to the teaching of evolution. - William Jennings Bryan

Mere factual innocence is no reason not to carry out a death sentence properly reached. - Supreme Court Justice Antonin "Benito"Scalia

We're going to capture the lost sovereignty of our country... And when we get there, my friends, we will only be obedient to one sovereign America, and that is the sovereign of God Himself and His laws. - Pat Buchanan

Grown men should not be having sex with prostitutes unless they are married to them. - Jerry Falwell

Biology is a cross between pipetting and stamp collecting. - DaveScot, creationist drooler, Jan 2006

There are several proteins in human hemoglobin that must cooperate in gas transport. The proteins differ in types A, B, AB, O, rh+ and rh- blood types. Assuming that humans started with a common blood type, and diverged at some point into the types common today, how did this happen ? A single protein mutation that doesn’t kill the host has pretty long odds. However, the several proteins that  must mutate -simultaneously- when going from any human blood type to another is impossibly long odds, even given billions of years.- Dave Springer, aka DaveScot, quoted in The Panda's Thumb, 25 Feb 2006,  original source

Megalomaniac Darwinian globalists are in the process of creating a new world order in which the Masters (themselves) will be served by scientifically-re-engineered “Un Man.”  The stumbling block is Christianity and the individualism that naturally occurs from belief in God as Sovereign of the universe.  Hence the unrelenting and increasingly virulent hatred being spewed at Christians, Christmas, and all things relating to Christianity. - Linda Kimball,  January 02, 2006.

biblesaurI feel uncomfortable that good Christians all over America, and indeed the world, are using a document commissioned by a homosexual. Anything that has been commissioned by a homosexual has obviously been tainted in some way. - GOP presidential candidate Gary Bauer, on discarding the King James version of the Bible because he may have been gay.

The bombing was a work of art, like a Rembrant. - The famous American popular Patriot and Presidential Candidate Bo Gritz on the Oklahoma bombing.

The judges need to be intimidated, they need to uphold the Constitution. If they don't behave, we're going to go after them in a big way. - Rep. Tom DeLay

Don't let anything like trees in the Clearwater National Forest get in the way of providing jobs and fueling the economy, even if that means cutting down every last tree in the state. - Helen Chenoweth, R-Idaho

The question is not whether to close the parks, but how to accomplish this goal. - James Hansen (R-Utah)

At least if we don't close down the Environmental Protection Agency, we at least put a snaffle bit on them and ride the pony down. - Dick Armey (R-TX), major league asshole

We know that acid rain has had no significant environmental effect on trees or forests in the United States... It is based on popular myths and half-baked theories. - Haley Barbour, GOP National bagman

There is a socialist agenda... Environmentalists are the most despicable group of individuals... A self-centered bunch, a waffle-stomping, Harvard-graduating, intellectual bunch of idiots." Chairman of the US House Resources Committee, Don Young (R-Alaska), the premier anti-environmentalist in Congress.

Citizen service is a repudiation of the principles upon which our country was based. We are all here for ourselves. - Rush Limbaughnazi gas bag

Covert action should not be confused with missionary work. - Henry Kissinger, commenting to Congress on the US sellout of the Kurds in Iraq in 1975

The illegal we do immediately. The unconstitutional takes a little longer. - Henry Kissinger

Today Americans would be outraged if U.N. troops entered Los Angeles to restore order; tomorrow they will be grateful. This is especially true if they were told there was an outside threat from beyond, whether real or promulgated, that threatened our very existence. It is then that all peoples of the world will plead with world leaders to deliver them from this evil. The one thing every man fears is the unknown. When presented with this scenario, individual rights will be willingly relinquished for the guarantee of their well being granted to them by their world government. - Henry Kissinger, Evian, France, 21, 1992 (1)

I don't feel we did wrong in taking this great country away from them. There were great numbers of people who needed new land, and the Indians were selfishly trying to keep it for themselves. - John Wayne

At the time of Caliph Omar's invasion of Egypt, the Arab officer on duty in the destruction of the library of Alexandria used two stamps with which he marked the books. One said: 'Does not agree with the Koran — heretic, must be burned'. The other said: 'Agrees with the Koran — superfluous, must be burned'.    — Nils Kjaer

Non-Christians are like termites... and the time has arrived for a godly fumigation... You say you're supposed to be nice to the Episcopalians and the Presbyterians and the Methodists and this, that, and the other thing. Nonsense. I don't have to be nice to the spirit of the Antichrist. - Pat Robertson, on The 700 Club, January 14, 1991

After the Christian majority takes control, pluralism will be seen as immoral and evil and the state will not permit anybody to practice it. - Pat Robertson

And I'll tell you what's even more bad than the Contract with America, it's the Christian Coalition's Contract with the American Family. You read the Contract with the American Family, if every single thing they want in that contract were accomplished, we'd still have 4,400 babies a day being murdered! We would still have the homosexuals moving further and further down the road legitimizing their godless perversions. We would still have the government corrupting our kids in the failed, godless, tyrannical government school system that graduates a third of their kids who can't read the condom they can use - they can't read the label on the thing, for goodness sake. - Randall Terry

God established patriarchy when he established the world. God established a patriarchal world. If we're going to have true reformation in America, it is because men once again, if I may use a worn out expression, have righteous testosterone flowing through their veins. They are not afraid of the contempt of their contemporaries. They are not here to get along. They are not even here to take issue. They are here to take over! - Randall Terry, founder of Operation Rescue

If the peasants are in open rebellion, then they are outside the law of God. Therefore let all who are able slash, strike down, and kill (those who rebel) openly and secretly, remembering that there can be nothing more venomous, harmful, or devilish than a rebel. It is exactly like killing a mad dog. - Martin Luther

Reason is the greatest enemy that faith has; it never comes to the aid of spiritual things, but — more frequently than not — struggles against the divine Word, treating with contempt all that emanates from God. - Martin Luther

I hope I live to see the day, when, as in the early days of our country, we won't have any public schools. The churches will have taken them over again and Christians will be running them. What a happy day that will be!" - Rev. Jerry Falwell, America Can Be Saved, (1979)religion stops a thinking mind

I want you to just let a wave of intolerance wash over you. I want you to let a wave of hatred wash over you. Yes, hate is good...Our goal is a Christian nation. We have a Biblical duty, we are called by God, to conquer this country. We don't want equal time. We don't want pluralism. - Randall Terry, The News-Sentinel, Fort Wayne, IN, 1993-AUG-16

I also watched Pat Robertson interview the President of the African nation of Zambia. [...] A couple of years ago the president of the country stood on the steps of a federal building in Zambia and officially declared the country a Christian nation. The first thing he did was close all the abortion clinics by force, drive the doctors out and beat them in the streets. Then they had a mass book-burning. Isn't that nice? That's a Christian nation. And Pat Robertson applauded this on his show. He said: "Wouldn't it be great to have a man like that as President of the United States?" - Rob Boston

There will never be peace until God's house and God's people are given their rightful place of leadership at the top of the world. How can there be peace when drunkards, drug dealers, communists, atheists, New Age worshippers of Satan, secular humanists, oppressive dictators, greedy money changers, revolutionary assassins, adulterers, and homosexuals are on top... there is absolutely no way that government can operate successfully unless led by godly men and women operating under the laws of the God of Jacob - Pat Robertson, The New World Order (1991)

Science and law for IDiots:

ACTIVIST JUDGE: one with whom I disagree, but cannot fault at law
LAW: Set of rules annoyingly contrived so as not to automatically confirm my prejudices
SCIENCE: A religion, promoted for perverse reasons by power-mad liberals
RELIGION: A science that would make our schoolchildren unique in the world, were it not irrationally denied them.
DESIGNER: Oooh, look at this pretty sea shell!

fat purple slugYou can't organize clutter - you can only get rid of it. - Flylady

Really neat people are not avatars of the good life; they are humorless and inflexible prigs, and have way too much time on their hands. - NYT, 21 Dec 2006, article on proliferation of organizing paraphenelia

Photography: Not everyone welcomed this invention. The Leipzig City Advertiser wrote: "The wish to capture evanescent reflections is not only impossible ... but the mere desire alone, the will to do so, is blasphemy. God created man in His own image, and no man-made machine may fix the image of God." - Slate 9/1/00 Newsquiz

Well informed people know it is impossible to transmit the voice over wires and that were it possible to do so, the thing would be of no practical value. - editorial in the Boston Post (1865)

It [the Grand Canyon] looks like the Gates of Hell. The region ... is, of course, altogether valueless. Ours has been the first and will undoubtedly be the last, party of whites to visit the locality. It seems intended by nature that the Colorado River along the greater portion of its lonely and majestic way, shall be forever unvisited and undisturbed. - Lieutenant Joseph C. Ives, Report to Congress on the Colorado River of the West (1861)

My dynamite will sooner lead to peace
Than a thousand world conventions
As soon as men will find that in one instant
Whole armies can be utterly destroyed,
They surely will abide by golden peace.

- Alfred Bernhard Nobel (1833-1896)

You would make a ship sail against the winds and currents by lighting a bon-fire under her deck... I have no time for such nonsense. - Napoleon, commenting on Fulton's Steamship

The capybara is a shy and intelligent rodent that in size (40 Kg) and colour looks much like a pig. Yet in the 16th Century, in response to a petition by Venezuelans and Colombians, the Pope decreed that the capybara is a fish! This dispensation enables observant communicants to consume the creature during the Fast of Lent (when the consumption of meat is prohibited). To this day, that rodent remains a fish. - Scientific American Oct 1994

At the time of Galileo the Church remained much more reasonable than Galileo himself. The process against Galileo was reasonable and just. — Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger (now Pope), 15 Mar 1990, Parma. Corriere della Sera 30 Mar 1990

The destruction of the great ancient Egyptian Library of Alexandria under the reign of Ptolemy with its estimated millions of books and manuscripts was a horrendous crime against all civilization. The burning and looting was organised by monk-led mobs of Christians in the year AD 389. The foremost librarian and scientist, Hypatia, was dragged out of the library, stripped and torn apart by the Christian mobs armed with jagged seashells. - CA#1

Most people are aware of the edict or "fatwa" issued by the Iranian Ayatollah calling for the death of Salmon Rushdie. His crime was putting words on paper. Another fatwa, not so well known but carrying equal weight is the one issued by Sheik Abdel-Aziz Ibn Baaz, the boss of all the religionists in Saudi Arabia. It goes: "The earth is flat. Whoever claims it is round is an atheist deserving of punishment." These insanities are not to be considered humorous or harmless. New York Times - Feb. 12/95

A well-known scientist (some say it was Bertrand Russell) once gave a public lecture on astronomy. He described how the earth orbits around the sun and how the sun in turn, orbits around the center of a vast collection of stars called our galaxy. At the end of the lecture, a little old lady at the back of the room got up and said: "What you have told us is rubbish. The world is really a flat plate supported on the back of a giant tortoise." The scientist gave a superior smile before replying, "What is the tortoise standing on?" "You're very clever, young man, very clever," said the old lady. "But it's turtles all the way down!" - Stephen W. Hawking, A Brief History of Time. (1988)

Those that scaped the fire were slaine with the sword; some hewed to peeces, others rune throw with their rapiers, so as they were quickly dispatche, and very few escaped. It was conceived they thus destroyed about 400 at this time. It was a fearful sight to see them thus frying in the fyer, and the streams of blood quenching the same, and horrible was the stincke and sente there of, but the victory seemed a sweet sacrifice, and they gave the prayers thereof to God, who had wrought so wonderfully for them, thus to inclose their enemise in their hands, and gave them so speedy a victory over so proud and insulting an enimie. - William Bradford, History of the Plymouth Plantation, on the massacre of the friendly Pequot Indians by Puritans in 1637; their village had been set on fire and 900 men, women, and children were slaughtered as they tried to escape the flames.

I read in the Telegram & Gazette about a man who wrote a children's book about a fictitious story about the cloning of Jesus Christ. This is a real story.
I've been telling people about this for over a year now. There's a nonprofit European group which has been working on this for almost three years. I suspect they got the DNA from the shroud. Wherever they got it, they are ready to unveil this abomination of Jesus Christ within the next couple of years.
They want to unveil it on Christmas Day. Whether it's this year, or in the next couple of years, they are ready to go.
The Bible says at the end of time, there will be such an abomination of Jesus Christ like you've never seen before. Part of it is that people will believe that this is Jesus Christ coming back to Earth for a second time. Don't believe it.
Also, when they unveil this false Jesus Christ, see how fast their nonprofit status changes. Imagine what the cost would be to see or talk to this false Jesus Christ. - Philip Posson, Shrewsbury MA, in Worcester Telegram & Gazette September 16, 2002

patriotism and jingoism

Our government has kept us in a perpetual state of fear kept us in a continuous stampede of patriotic fervor with the cry of grave national emergency... Always there has been some terrible evil to gobble us up if we did not blindly rally behind it by furnishing the exorbitant sums demanded. Yet, in retrospect, these disasters seem never to have happened, seem never to have been quite real. - General Douglas MacArthur

Patriotism means being loyal to your country all the time, and to its government when it deserves it. - Mark Twain

god hates flagsFlag; n. A colored rag borne above troops and hoisted on forts and ships. - Ambrose Bierce

Old soldiers never die; that's what the young ones are for. - unknown

Can anything be stupider than that a man has the right to kill me because he lives on the other side of a river and his ruler has a quarrel with mine, though I have not quarrelled with him?  - Blaise Pascal (1623-1662)

A nation is a society united by a delusion about its ancestry and by common hatred of its neighbours. - William R. Inge (1860-1954)

Every government has as much of a duty to avoid war as a ship's captain has to avoid a shipwreck. - Guy de Maupassant

Nationalism is a silly cock crowing on his own dunghill. - Richard Aldington (1892-1962)

I have no country to fight for; my country is the earth, and I am a citizen of the world. - Eugene V. Debs (1855-1926)

It seems like the less a statesman amounts to, the more he loves the flag. - unknown

Nothing is more annoying in the ordinary intercourse of life than this irritable patriotism of the Americans. A foreigner will gladly agree to praise much in their country, but he would like to be allowed to criticize something, and that he is absolutely refused.   — Alexis de Tocqueville, Democracy in America (1831)

Nationalism is an infantile sickness. It is the measles of the human race.  — Albert Einstein

He who joyfully marches to music in rank and file has already earned my contempt. He has been given a large brain by mistake, since for him the spinal cord would fully suffice. This disgrace to civilization should be done away with at once. Heroism at command, senseless brutality, deplorable love-of-country stance, how violently I hate all this, how despicable and ignoble war is; I would rather be torn to shreds than be a part of so base an action! It is my conviction that killing under the cloak of war is nothing but an act of murder.   — Albert Einstein

or: Heroism on command, senseless violence, and all the loathsome nonsense that goes by the name of patriotism; how passionately I hate them! - Albert Einstein

The object of war is not to die for your country but to make the other dumb bastard die for his. - Gen. George S. Patton (1885-1945)

Patriotism is the last refuge of the scoundrel. - Samuel Johnson

In Dr. Johnson's famous dictionary, patriotism is defined as the last resort of a scoundrel. With all due respect to an enlightened but inferior lexicographer I beg to submit that it is the first. - Ambrose Bierce

Patriotism, n. Combustible rubbish ready to the torch of any one ambitious to illuminate his name. - Ambrose Bierce

Patriotism is the virtue of the vicious. - Oscar Wilde

Patriotism is your conviction that this country is superior to all others because you were born in it. - George Bernard Shaw

'My country, right or wrong,' is a thing that no patriot would think of saying except in a desperate case. It is like saying, 'My mother, drunk or sober'.   — G. K. Chesterton

"Patriotism" is a word; and one that generally comes to mean either my country, right or wrong, which is infamous, or my country is always right, which is imbecile. - Dr Stephen Maturin in Master and Commander, p 173. Patrick O'Brian. 1970

It is because it is more egotistical that the patriotism of the American is more easily roused and more easily affronted. He has been educated to despise all other countries and to look upon his own as the first in the world; he has been taught that all other nations are slaves to despots and that the American citizen only is free, and this is never contradicted. For although thousands may in their own hearts feel the falsehood of their assertions, there is not one who will venture to express his opinion. The government sets the example, the press follows it, and the people receive the incense of flattery, which in other countries is offered to the court alone, and if it were not for the occasional compunctions and doubts, which his real good sense will sometimes visit him with, the more enlightened American would be happy in his own delusions, as the majority most certainly may be said to be. . . . (p. 442-3), Capt. Frederick Marryat, A Diary in America, with remarks on its Institutions, 1838

1. Bilderburg meeting. Unbeknownst to Kissinger, his speech was taped by a Swiss delegate to the meeting.
also: East Timor- Kissinger and Ford visited Jakarta in early December, 1975. Less than 48 hours after they left, Indonesia invaded East Timor, beginning a genocidal campaign that would claim the lives of over 200,000 East Timorese. Philip Liechty, the CIA desk officer in Jakarta, said, "They came and gave Suharto the green light. … We were ordered to give the Indonesian military everything they wanted. I saw all the hard intelligence; the place was a free-fire zone. Women and children were herded into school buildings that were set alight - and all because we didn't want some little country being neutral or leftist at the United Nations."
